Cardinal Zin 2006

by Nannette Eaton on June 23, 2009

“Sins become more subtle as you grow older; you commit sins of despair rather than lust.”  —   Piers Paul Read

This is a fun little wine to bring to your next gathering.  From the irreverent name, to the fabulous Ralph Steadman label, you’ll get a lot of play from this one.  Be warned: It’s not a big, thick, in-your-face fruit-bomb zinfandel.  Rather it is a restrained zin, with a nice balance of jam and spice, which pairs beautifully with food.

We paired this with the Wine Harlots signature dish, Pasta Puttanesca, also known as whore’s pasta.  (Clever we are; subtle, not so much.)  This is a simple, quick, nutritious and delicious meal after a long day of work.

The alcohol is 14.5%.  Screw-cap.  The wine is from Mendocino with primarily zinfandel grapes with a 5% hint of mouvèrde.  The suggested retail is $20 USD.  The wine is available from Underdog Wine Merchants, with national distribution.  This was a wine sample, kindly provided by Folsom & Associates.

The music match is “Bad Things” by Jace Everett from his eponymous album.  Whether you decide to sin or do bad things,  it’s up to you.
