Vina Robles White 4

by Nannette Eaton on July 19, 2009

“Nothing ventured, nothing gained.”  — American proverb

Wine Harlots were approached by Vina Robles asking if we would like to sample their wines.  We hadn’t ever heard of them (and with over 4000 wineries in the United States, it’s an impossible challenge to know every winery, although we’re doing our darnest to make a big dent) but we harlots rarely pass-up an opportunity taste wine, so we eagerly agreed.  Vina Robles sent a selected six pack of their wines, ranging in price point from $14-39 USD.  Wine Harlots will talk about them individually at a later date, but they were all fantastic wines.

The Vina Robles White4 is a great white for hot, humid summer days.  The price is a friendly $14; the wine is a refreshing quaff; crisp yet creamy, with pear, peach and apricot flavors.  Utter deliciousness.  This was drunk at group tasting, it was univerally loved, both on taste and price.

The alcohol is 14.6% but the wine is balanced so it seems lower.  Stelvin screw-cap closure.  The grapes are from Paso Robles with an unusual blend of 41% Verdelho, 26% Vermentino, 22% Sauvignon Blanc and 11% Viognier.  You can buy this wine at the Vina Robles website or check the Vina Robles Distribution List to find the retailers in your area.

Wine Harlots suggest pairing this wine with Chef Gwen’s delicious Just for the Halibut.  The music match is “Just My Imagination” by the Cranberries from the album Bury the Hatchet.  We imagine you will venture out of your white wine comfort-zone and procure a few bottles of this baby.  Wine Harlots may not have heard of Vina Robles, but we’ll be searching for them in the future.  Cheers!
