2007 Red X

by Nannette Eaton on August 22, 2009

“Perfection consists not in doing extraordinary things, but in doing ordinary things extraordinarily well.”  —  Angelique Arnauld

2007 Red X has a glorious ruby color with a full fruit bowl of flavors, cassis, blackberry, blueberry, cherries with a nice structure of supple tannins.  Delicious.  It’s amazing how a couple of ordinary grapes can be so enjoyable.

I totally love the logo.  And so do the rest of the harlots.  I had several samples to taste over a few sittings, and I had the Guest Harlots pick the bottle they wanted to start with.  Three-out-of-three times, they picked the X.  Don’t pooh-pooh the power of compelling packaging.  Just sayin’.

The details:  Alcohol 14.5%.  Stelvin screw-top closure.  This is a mélange of 60% Syrah, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Zinfandel; sourced from primarily Lake County, with additional grapes from Napa County and Sonoma County.

Suggested retail price $15 USD.   Wine can be purchased directly through the X Winery website or check here for a list of national distributors.   Sample kindly provided by X Winery.

The music pairing is “Extraordinary” by Liz Phair from her eponymous album.  Get to know X Winery.  Take the average and ordinary and transmute it into extraordinary experience.
