Gioia Chardonnay 2007

“I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge, myth is more potent than history, dreams are more powerful than facts, hope always triumphs over experience, laughter is the cure for grief and love is stronger than death.”  —  Robert Fulghum

Gioia Chardonnay 2007

This is a difficult column to write.  The wines were created in memory of Teri Love’s son, Tyler, whose life was tragically cut short in a motorcycle accident.  Today is my late mother’s birthday.  Pathos and introspection aren’t so much fun, but deal with it, this is my party.

The Gioia Chardonnay color is a golden hue.  The flavors are a nuanced honey, apple, and melon.  It has a buttery creaminess, but it’s not over-oaked, it has a crisp, clean feel.  There’s a hint of spice, and everything nice.  Nicely crafted and delicious.  The bottle itself is top-notch.  It’s one of the heaviest bottles I’ve hefted, and the label is stunning.  Teri Love says “Love the Wine You’re With” and Wine Harlots loved this white.

The specifics:  Alcohol content 14.9%.  Cork closure.  The chardonnay grapes were sourced from Santa Barbara.  The price is $28 USD, available directly through the Gioia Wine, due to the archaic shipping laws in the United States, shipping is limited to just a handful of states, but it does give you a perfect reason to make a trip to Santa Barbara to score some of this yummy juice.  This was a sample kindly provided by the winery.

The music pairing is “I Will Love You” by Fisher from the album True North.  Eternally one of the most beautiful love songs created.  You can get a free download of this song from the Fisher website.  Fisher also has a new album out, Water.  It’s fantastic.  Buy the album and a bottle of Gioia and share the joy with your loved ones and toast a glass to Tyler and Nancy.  Cheers!
