Orfila Lotus Lot 67

by Nannette Eaton on August 7, 2009

“They remember me as this shy girl sitting under the table.  But they obviously didn’t know what was going on in my head.”  —  Izabella Scorupco

Orfila is nice wine, no matter what your mood.  The first bottle was uncorked under inauspicious circumstances, the entire world was hating on the harlots, and the feeling was mutual.  The first glass didn’t seem exceptional, but due to the sneaky alcohol content, by the second glass, this wine harlot didn’t care.  The second bottle was opened on a sultry, carefree San Diego day, when the worries of the world couldn’t touch us.  And magically, we enjoyed the wine more (funny how that works!)  The color is a beautiful golden color with honey and mango flavors.  We suggest pairing this with Grilled Soft-Shell Crabs with Tartar Sauce.

Orfila Lotus is a monster of white with 15.8% alcohol.  Cork closure.  Viognier 76%, Marsanne 11% and Roussanne 13% from grapes sourced from the San Pasqual Valley in San Diego County.  The suggested retail is $29 USD, with club member price of just over $23.  This was a sample kindly provided by the winery.

The music match is “Shy That Way” by San Diego native Tristan Prettyman with Jason Mraz from her album Twenty-three.  This is not a shy white, that for sure!
