James David Cellars Eaglepoint Ranch Syrah 2005

“About the only time losing is more fun than winning is when you’re fighting temptation.”  —  Tom Wilson

This is a wine worthy to be fought over.  My sister only wanted to have a single small glass, as she had stack of papers to grade that evening.  When I poured my second glass, she gave me the evil eye and demanded more.  I thought she only wanted a taste, she said, “Well, I didn’t know how delicious it would be!”  The bottle was duly emptied, the schoolwork would wait for another day.

This is a beautifully integrated wine.  The color is a deep rich ruby.  With lush blackberries with a hint of chocolate and a touch of toasty oak.  This is such a great bottle it’s a perfect stand alone wine.  For a food pairing try Beef Bourguignon.  This recipe was Julia Child’s.  (And you know how she loved wine!)

The details: 15.5% alcohol.  Cork closure.  The appellation is Mendocino.  Suggested retail $24 USD.  Available directly from James David Cellars online.  This was a press sample kindly provided by the winery.

For the social media mavens, you can be a fan of James David Cellars on Facebook, be a friend of the winery owner, David Cole on Facebook or follow him Twitter and keep up with all of the happenings.

The music match is “Take it Easy” from The Eagles eponymous debut album.  Crank up the tunes, uncork a bottle (or two) and take it easy.  Que sera, sera.
