Bearboat Chardonnay 2007

by Nannette Eaton on January 10, 2010

Exit, pursued by a bear.   —   William Shakespeare (Stage direction in “The Winter’s Tale”)

Wine Harlots cast a jaundiced eye to clever critter wines, as often they mask inferior product. Not so with Bearboat. Although the labels have two anthropomorphic bears in a row boat, “Mac and Zeke, two inquisitive bears who find themselves on a quest to enjoy life’s great curiosities” the wines have more than novelty appeal. Wine Harlots enjoyed the pinot noir and the chardonnay has similar likability. It’s a light golden with apple, vanilla and butter notes. The oak is subtle and nuanced. Perfect wine for food pairing, we suggest Donna Hay’s Roasted Fish in White Wine with Olives.

The details: The wine has13.5% alcohol. Cork closure. Appellation: Russian River Valley in Sonoma. The suggested retail is $18 USD. Actual retail is about $12-20. This was a complementary media sample provided by the winemaker.

For those who enjoy the whimsical, the winery offers Bear Missives, where you can send emails from Mac and Zeke with your own personal message.

The music match is “Driftwood” from Travis from the album The Man Who.
