Claudia Springs Zinfandel Rhodes Vineyard Redwood Valley 2006

by Nannette Eaton on January 19, 2010

“Destiny is no matter of chance. It is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for; it is a thing to be achieved.” — William Jennings Bryan

Destiny has been achieved in the Claudia Springs Zinfandel Redwood Valley Rhodes Vineyard 2006. This was a fabulous zinfandel, a warm summer day in the blackberry patch eating a spicy chocolate cake. Even though it has a high alcohol level, don’t be afraid. The wine is beautifully integrated, an elegant, sublime quaff.

It’s a boutique winery, less than 2500 cases are crafted per year. It’s a hands-on operation. All of the wines are completely made by the owners Bob and Claudia Klindt, from the crushing, pressing and bottling of these lovely wines. Ok, the website needs a little updating, but that just adds to the charm. Wine Harlots prefer our wineries to focus on world-class wine making. I’ll take superior wines and a quaint website over a slick website and substandard wines any day!

The details: 16.3% alcohol. Cork closure. Appellation: Redwood Valley in Mendocino County, California. The retail price is $26 USD, available directly through the winery. They will be upgrading the website this year, but in the interim, to order the magnificent wines, give them a call or send them an e-mail..

The music match is “Don’t Panic” from Coldplay from the album Parachutes. Wine Harlots say don’t panic, choose a bottle of Claudia Springs and achieve your own destiny. Claudia Spring’s destiny is awesome!
