Haras Character Cabernet Sauvignon-Carménère 2006

by Nannette Eaton on January 20, 2010

“I grow more intense as I age.”  — Florida Scott-Maxwell

In a word: intense.  This is a intenseness Wine Harlots find very compelling.  It has a fabulous intense plum-burgundy color.  Great legs.  The aroma is intoxicating.  There is excellent fruit concentration, with powerful blackberry and dark cherry flavors, with hints of mocha and a subtle grassiness combined with sturdy tannins.

The details: 14.9% alcohol.  Cork closure.  The wine is a blend of 65% cabernet sauvignon 19% carménère 9% cabernet franc 7% syrah from the Maipo Valley, Chile.  The retail on this ranges from $12-14 USD.  Produced and bottled by Vina Haras de Pirque S.A.  Imported to the USA by Ste Michelle Wine Estates Ltd.  To locate the wine in a store or restaurant use the Wine Locator.  Here is a listing of the Distributors.  This was a media sample kindly provided by The Wines of Chile.

The music match is “Older” from the album of the same name by George Michael.  It’s ok with Wine Harlots if you’re intense (hell, we are) but we suggest mellowing out with a glass of Haras.
