Luna Vineyards Sangiovese 2007

by Nannette Eaton on January 9, 2010

Tis the witching hour of night,
Or bed is the moon and bright,
And the stars they glisten, glisten,
Seeming with bright eyes to listen,
For what listen they?
— John Keats

I love sangiovese. I love everything about it. I even love saying “sangiovese.” The Luna Vineyards Sangiovese 2007 is a terrific example of this varietal. It’s a beautiful garnet hue, with an aromatic nose an delicious berry and chocolate flavors. It rocks. Luna indicates it will be at it’s peak through 2016, but I don’t think it will last very long in your cellar. I love pairing this with Three-Cheese Lasagna with Italian Sausage.

The details: 14.1% alcohol. Cork closure. Appellation: Napa Valley. Varietal: 75% Sangiovese, 18% Merlot, 7% Petit Sirah. The suggested retail is $25 USD, available at the Luna Vineyards website and fine wine purveyors. This was a media wine sample kindly provided by The Barn Group.

The music match is “Bella Luna” by Jason Mraz from the album Mr. A-Z.
