McNab Ridge Petite Sirah 2006

by Nannette Eaton on January 29, 2010

“Simplicity is complexity resolved.”  — Constantin Brancusi

The color is intense purple with ruby edges.  The nose has an unusual, intriguing (and not unpleasant) meaty-sweet nose.  It has rich blackberry flavors with subtle peppery tones with a whisper of vanilla.  A lot of fruit, but balanced.  Smooth.  We want to say “nice” but that word is loaded with baggage.  We want to say uncomplicated, but that runs into “simple” which begets the same drama as nice.  But dammit, it is nice, and uncomplicated and simple and easy-drinking.  A fantastic wine, just sayin’.  Petite Sirah goes well with grilled or barbecued meats, but if you want something different, try the Chubby Vegetarian’s Mushroom & Eggplant Meatballs with Homemade Pappardelle.

The details: 14.8% alcohol.  Cork closure.  Appellation: Mendocino.  The blend is 85% petite sirah and 15% syrah.  The retail price is $18 USD and available directly from McNab Ridge.  This was a media sample generously provided by the winery.

The music match is “Smooth” by Santana & Rob Thomas from the album Supernatural.  Forget the baggage.  Relax and enjoy a simply smooth glass of wine.
