Bianchi Extra Brut

by Nannette Eaton on February 10, 2010

“Among those whom I like or admire, I can find no common denominator, but among those whom I love, I can: all of them make me laugh.”  — W. H. Auden

What an exuberant wine!  It was so eager to get into the glass, it had the audacity to foam all over the Wine Harlot.  I was so unexpected it made me laugh with delight.  The frothy effervesce lasted until the last drop was drained from the bottle.  This is a zippy and brash sparkling wine.  Bianchi Extra Brut is fruity and fresh with apple, pineapple and peach on the palate, with a lingering toastiness on the finish.  What a fun and delicious brut.  Be playful and pair these with potato chips.  It’s a Wine Harlot favorite, and it was Marilyn Monroe’s pairing choice in the movie the Seven Year Itch.  I also paired these with Gummy Bears, and it was an awsome match!

The details: 12.3% alcohol.  The grapes are 60% chardonnay, 40% pinot noir from San Rafael in Mendoza, Argentina by Bodega Valentin Bianchi.  The suggested retail is $30 USD.  The wine is imported exclusively by Quintessential.  The wine was a media sample generously provided by Quintessential.

The music match is the saucy, raucous “Are You Gonna Be My Girl?” by Jet from the album Get Born.
