Ventisquero Grey Carménère 2007

by Nannette Eaton on February 19, 2010

“It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves.”  —  Edmund Hillary

The color is deep, rich, dark purple.  The Ventisquero Grey Carménère has aromas that are complex and intense: high alcohol, honeysuckle and meaty sweetness.  Flavors of blackberry and tart cherry.  There are firm tannins and a peppery long finish.  The perfect pairing for carménère is Grilled Hanger Steak with Extra Virgin Avocado Oil Chimichurri.

The details: 14.5% alcohol.  Cork closure.  100% carménère from the appellation Maipo Valley in Chile.  The suggested retail is $25.  The importer is Austral Wines.  This was a media sample generously provided by the Wines of Chile.

The music match is“Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Diana Ross from the album Standing In The Shadows Of Motown.
