X Winery Carneros Chardonnay 2008

by Nannette Eaton on February 23, 2010

“When one man, for whatever reason, has the opportunity to lead an extraordinary life, he has no right to keep it to himself.”  — Jacques Cousteau

This is a subtle wine.  The X Winery Carneros Chardonnay’s color is straw, the nose is clean with a fresh, light, lemony scent.  The palate has apple and pineapple with a soft mineral finish.  The oak is well used here – light and unobtrusive.  You’re not going to spend all your time analyzing this wine.  You’ll swirl, sniff and sample.  You’ll nod with pleasure and continue on with your conversation and your meal.  The perfect pairing is Donna Hay’s Prawn, Chili & Coriander Pasta.  The mellow chard took the edge off the heat of the chilies.

The details: 13.9%.  Stelvin screw-top closure.  Appellation: Carneros.  The suggested retail price is $19 USD and is available directly from the X Winery or through select distributors.  This was a media sample generously provided by the winery.

The music match is “The Last Secret of the Sea” from Cousteau from the album Sirena.  Wine Harlots say once you discovered this extraordinary wine, you have no right to keep it to yourself.
