X Winery – X3 Tri-County California Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

by Nannette Eaton on January 5, 2011

“The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra.”  —  Jimmy Johnson

The Roman numerals for the year 2011 is MMXI.  But Wine Harlots like to think of it as MMX! (Mmmmm X!) because X Winery always delivers great juice at a great price.  X always does the little extra to make extraordinary wine.  Here’s the link to the commentaries on X the Wine Harlots have done in the past, the subsequent vintages are just as good the ones we talked about previously.  And the X3 doesn’t disappoint, is moniker is derived from the three counties the grapes are sourced.  The flavors are classic cabernet, cherries and blackberry with a hint of pepper and restrained use oak.  The winery suggests pairing this with a Garlic Rubbed Leg of Lamb with Creamy Polenta, which sounds perfect to us!

The details: 14.5% alcohol.  Screw-cap closure.  Varietal: cabernet sauvignon.  The grapes are sourced from Lake, Sonoma and Napa Counties.  The suggested retail is $18 USD available directly from

the X Winery or select distributors.  This was a media wine sample kindly provided by the winery.

The music match is “Shelter” from The xx from the album xx.  So our cryptic recommendation is MMX! X3 xx.  Go on, try it as your opening gambit for your next cocktail conversation icebreaker.  Would we steer you wrong? (Yes, you will be ostracized by your peer group, but Wine Harlots will still love you!)
