Domaine Ste. Michelle Luxe 2004

by Nannette Eaton on February 11, 2011

“One should absorb the colour of life, but one should never remember its details. Details are always vulgar.”  —  Oscar Wilde

A much as we love Papardelle with Chanterelles, Prosciutto & Thyme Cream, the labels for the Domaine Ste. Michelle sparkling wines are less than amazing.  The label for Luxe is vulgar, it’s been suggested that its old-school glitter Las Vegas sophisticated.  More show-girl than socialite.  That said, we love the juice.  The color is golden, the bubbles are pin-point small, the flavors are crisp Granny Smith apples and Meyer lemons with a refreshing acidity.  The perfect pairing is Lobster & Crab Ravioli.

The details:  Alcohol 11%.  Appellation:  Columbia Valley.  Varietal: chardonnay.  The wine is made in the Methodé Champenoise style.  The suggested retail is $23 USD (the case discount if you purchase directly from Domaine Ste. Michelle is $19.55.)  You can pick up various vintages across the US ranging from $17-23. This was a media sample generously provided by the winery.

If you’re looking for a sparkler with a lower price point, our go-to bottle for bubbles is Domaine Ste. Michelle Brut which retails for $7-14 USD depending on your jurisdiction.  Perfect for large parties, or those days when you’re thirsty, but thrifty.

The music match is “True Colors” from Cyndi Lauper from the Sex and the City 2 soundtrack.  Absorb some Luxe, and let your true colors show.
