“The four cornerstones of character on which the structure of this nation was built are: Initiative, Imagination, Individuality and Independence.” — Edward Vernon Rickenbacker

In a word, it rocks! Stepping Stone by Cornerstone White Rocks! is not your conventional California white wine, and that’s exactly the point. Cornerstone Napa is known for their elegant (and expensive) cabernets. Last year they launched Stepping Stone, a line of wines that have a lower price point, but don’t sacrifice the Cornerstone reputation for quality and deliciousness. This year they have launched Stepping Stone Rocks! a red and a white table wine that harkens to Old World blends, but with New World individuality and independence. Each vintage is unique, as Cornerstone sources the best and the most interesting grapes available each year. The actual percentages of the blends are being kept secret, to allow the wine to speak for itself, and not be drowned by the minutiae of statistics and numbers, and to allow your imagination to run wild.

Stepping Stone by Cornerstone White Rocks! 2010 is a rocking little white wine. It’s pale yellow in color with a subtle fragrance of white flowers and citrus. The flavors are gentle lemons, honey and minerals with good acid balance. The perfect pairing is Focaccia with Strawberry and Balsamic Onions.

The music match is “Between a Rock and a Hard Place” by the Rolling Stones from the album Steel Wheels. Normally being between a rock and a hard place is a bad thing, but if it’s Stepping Stone Rocks! it’s a delicious place to be.

The details: 13.5% alcohol. Cork closure. Appellation: Napa. Varietal: A blend of chardonnay and muscat. The retail price is $15 USD The wines are available directly from Cornerstone Cellars. This was a media sample generously provided by the winery.
