“Let them eat cake.” – Marie Antoinette
“Let them drink Layer Cake.” – The Wine Harlot

Label of Layer Cake Wines Shiraz Vintage 2009 South Australia - white label with a three layer chocolate cake

Wine Harlots say drink Layer Cake. The Layer Cake Shiraz 2009 is a delicious drop of wine. This is a big wine, but it’s not an over-blown shiraz, the fruit is tempered by the oak. The color is a rich, dense purple, luring you to explore its inky depths. The sensation is of juicy blackberries, dark cherries, plums with notes of black pepper, earth, wood and mocha. The perfect pairing is Sorrel Stuffed Leg of Lamb with Blackberry Shiraz Glaze. The music match is arguably the best band of the 1980’s, INXS. The pick is “Elegantly Wasted” from the album of the same name. Wine Harlots say drink Layer Cake. Whether you choose to become elegantly wasted is up to you.

The details: 14.9% alcohol. Screw-cap closure. Appellation: South Australia. Varietal: shiraz. Actual retail $12-17 USD. Purchased at Churchill’s Cigar Lounge for $26 (yeah, sometimes you pay a steep price for convenience).
