Lovingston Winery Petit Manseng 2010

“Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet.” — Aristotle

Petit manseng? Virginia? Who knew? Virginia winemaking is coming into it’s own, and the Lovingston Winery Petit Manseng 2010 is a quality example wine that is being produced by “the other 46.” Petit manseng is a rare grape with origins in south-western France and is renowned for aromatic and floral wines. And the Lovingston Petit Manseng delivers. Full-on tropical fruit with pineapple, mango, lime and pear with a whisper of sweetness with great acid balance.

The perfect pairing for petit manseng is spicy. Indian or Thai dishes pair beautifully with petit manseng, and we suggest Chili & Lemongrass Prawns. The music match is “Sweet Virginia” from the Rolling Stones from the album Exile on Main Street.

The details: 14.2% alcohol. Cork closure. Appellation: Virginia, from the Mount Juliet Orchard House. Varietal: petit manseng. Suggested retail: $17 USD, available directly from Lovingston. This was a media sample for the social media event Summer Wines of Virginia generously provided by the winery and facilitated by Virginia Wine and Frank Morgan of Drink What You Like.
