Take the $5 Challenge :: September 17th :: Slow Food USA

by Nannette Eaton on September 13, 2011

Slow Food USA Take the $5 Challenge September 17 2011Slow Food USA, the United States chapter of the Slow Food International is challenging you to take back your dinner from the “value meals” of the fast-food chains and create meals on September 17th that cost less than $5 USD per person. Get your friends and family together and share a slow home-cooked meal. If you go meatless, you’ll have enough money left over for wine. (And really, what’s a meal without wine?)  The Wine Harlots suggestion is a crusty baguette; a pasta dish like macaroni and cheese, pasta primavera, pasta putenesca or linguine with cream sauce and roasted vegetables; and a bountiful green salad with a garlic vinaigrette. To finish it off, make a olive oil lemon cake. A five dollar meal never tasted so delicious!

The Slow Food movement was created by Carlo Petrini in the Langhe district of Piedmont, Italy in 1986 is now a world-wide phenomenon with over 100,000 people in over 1,300 regional chapters.

Take a stand against industrial food on September 17th. Join the Wine Harlots in taking the $5 Challenge.
