Windows on the World Complete Wine Curse 25th Anniversary Edition by Kevin Zraly

Windows on the World opened in 1972 in Tower One of the World Trade Center with Kevin Zraly as wine director. Four year later Zraly began the Windows on the World Wine Course. This year, as America’s preeminent wine educator, he was honored by James Beard Foundation with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Although the restaurant, Windows on the World, ceased to exist on that horrific day ten years ago, the Windows on the World Complete Wine Course continues on as a tribute to those employees, patrons, and friends who perished on 9/11. The current location of the school is at the New York’s Marriot Marquis, but if you’re not fortunate enough to able to take classes in person, the Windows on the World Complete Wine Course: 25th Anniversary Edition is a great book to have for your wine library, whether you’re a wine novice or a seasoned professional. The study of wine can be daunting, but Windows makes it clear and comprehensive with maps, charts and graphs interspersed with the text. It’s entertaining education, with light and lively playful food pairings – don’t get Zraly started on pairing wines for Thanksgiving!

The list price is $28 USD, but for savvy shoppers, Amazon has it for $15. If you buy a second for a gift, you’ll get free shipping. (And in these tough economic times, who doesn’t love a bargain?)
