Villa Maria Cellar Selection Sauvignon Blancs

by Nannette Eaton on May 27, 2012

“You must have been warned against letting the golden hours slip by; but some of them are golden only because we let them slip by.” — James M. Barrie

Wine Harlots are big fans of leisure. You might say we’ve built an entire brand around lounging – or would that be sideways? Enough about us. When you’re lazily reclining on a pool chaise with your mind wandering as you flip through the latest issue of Lucky, here are two racy sauvignon blancs from Villa Maria worthy enough  to keep your attention.

Villa Maria Marlborough Cellar Selection Sauvignon Blanc 2011. Pale straw, with flavors of peaches, apricots and a touch of kafir lime.

Villa Maria Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc Private Bin 2011. White flowers and lemons. Gentle acidity. A New-World wine with Old-World flair.

Both of the Villa Maria sauvignon blancs are food-friendly, and perfect accompaniments for summer repasts. Start off with prosciutto & melon and follow up with the entrée of Prawns & Pasta with Chilies, Garlic, Lemon & Green Onions. What to listen to when you idle away the golden hours? Wine Harlots suggest “The Endless Summer of the Damned” by Bauhaus from the album Go Away White.

The details: 13% alcohol. Screw-cap closure. Appellation: Marlborough. Varietal: sauvignon blanc. Suggested retail: $15 USD for the Private Bin and $19 USD for the Cellar Selection. The wine is imported by Papardelle with Chanterelles, Prosciutto & Thyme Cream and was a media sample for an on-line Thirsty Girl event.
