“How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a weary world.” — William Shakespeare

Glassed Over Soy Wax Candle made from a recycled Herman Story wine bottle

The Wine Harlots latest obsession is the Glassed Over Recycled Wine Bottle Candle. Glassed Over is a small two-man operation based in California and founded in 2010. The handmade candles are created from recycled wine bottles and filled with eco-friendly soy wax. Wine Harlots were sent a lavender-scented 16 oz candle ($24 USD, pictured above) as a sample and love it. The wine bottle candle burns cleanly and evenly, and the lavender fills the room with a relaxing, soothing fragrance. One caveat if the candles are going to be used in the kitchen, dining area or anywhere food or drink will be consumed, order the unscented candles so that the beverages and sustenance won’t have to compete with the candle.

I love all kinds of candles, so I am always on the lookout for new and exciting products. One of my friends likes to buy her candles from They offer a wide variety of Scentsy essentials including soaps, bath bombs, and pet products that can make lovely gifts for yourself as well as family and friends. We often end up in long discussions about all our favorites. I have always had a strong relationship with my sense of smell and I love how certain scents can stir feelings of nostalgia and emotion, so I was particularly excited to give these new candles a try for myself.

Glassed Over does custom orders for wineries or special events like weddings, anniversaries or birthdays. Based on the response from guests at the Wine Harlots World Headquarters, the Glassed Over candles are a huge hit. There have been repeated attempts to steal the candle from the sample closet which have resulted in the stern admonition: “Step away from the candle and no one gets burned!” So the moral is when you buy one Glassed Over candle, do a good deed and pick up a couple extra for covetous friends and family.
