Oregon Advent: Day 14
Lumos Pinot Noir Temperance Hill 2012

by Nannette Eaton on December 15, 2014

“Strange to say, the luminous world is the invisible world; the luminous world is that which we do not see. Our eyes of flesh see only night.” — Victor Hugo

“I believe that there is luminosity hiding in the shadow of the mundane. And things that hover at the periphery of our vision. If that’s magic, then I believe in it.” ― Natasha Mostert

Luminous and delicious. Shadows and light. Corporeal and ethereal. Earthbound and magical, the wine changes and transforms with each swirl and sip.

The Lumos Pinot Noir Temperance Hill 2012 was seriously intense the first evening (if you can score the 2010 or 2009 to drink right now is the best bet) so give it some aeration or time — at 20+ hours the Lumos was hitting it’s stride, with dense cherry flavors with the bite of pomegranate and herbaceous undertones.

The music match is “Illume” by Fleetwood Mac from the album Say You Will.

The details: 13.5% alcohol. Cork closure. Appellation: Eola-Amity Hills. Varietal: pinot noir. Vineyard: Temperance Hill. Retail: $38 USD for the yet-to-be-released 2012, the 2010 North ($48) is showing beautifully right now, and Lumos is offering a special holiday price of $30 for the remaining 2009 pinot noir in stock. The wine was provided as an editorial sample for the Oregon Advent project.
