Oregon Advent: Day 6
Siduri Chehalem Mountains Pinot Noir 2012

by Nannette Eaton on December 7, 2014

“Something is always born of excess: great art was born of great terror, great loneliness, great inhibitions, instabilities, and it always balances them.” ― Anaïs Nin

A ruby red Oregon pinot noir glowing in the fading winter afternoon light.

Wine Harlots profess, excess is best. When we reached out to Adam Lee of Siduri for a single bottle of Oregon pinot for the project, this is what he sent. Oh, yes, excess is best. Siduri is well known for the California pinot noir’s they produce, but as Seattle natives, and Encinitas residents, Siduri captured our attention when the lore in the music world was that Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam drank Siduri on stage in concert. Whether it be fact, or rock legend fiction, Siduri deserves a place in your personal green room for pre-show celebrations.

Siduri Chehalem Mountains Pinot Noir Oregon Advent 2 copyright EatonAlive 2014We enjoyed the Siduri Chehalem Mountains Pinot Noir in the fading winter afternoon light, the ruby-hued liquid dancing around the glass. The Siduri is an easy drinking pinot, and can easily lead to excesses. (We’re not saying that happened to us — but there were six bottles of Sirduri. Draw your own conclusions.)

The music match is “Hunger Strike” a hauntingly beautiful song on the Temple of the Dog album, a tribute to the late Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone. A duet by Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder, it still holds up after a quarter century as evidenced this fall at the Bridge School Benefit concert. If drinking your dinner is your thing, rock on. However, we think the perfect pairing to end a fast is Lamb Chops with Pinot Noir Sauce.

The details: 14.1% alcohol. Screw-cap closure. Appellation: Chehalem Mountains. Grapes: pinot noir. Actual retail: $22-28 USD. The wine was provided as an editorial sample for the Oregon Advent project.
