“I love the smell of juice boxes in the morning.” — Robert Duvall
And its baby as in Swingers, “Baby, you’re money. You’re so money and you don’t even know it!” as opposed to tiny toddlers tippling temprenillo, which is wrong on every level. (But I’m still fixated on creating a kids line of apparel – what proud parent wouldn’t want their newborn sporting a Wine Harlot Onesie? But I digress).
I’ve been obessed with the Tetra-Pak packaging for years. Huge in Europe and Asia, the Tetra-Pak hasn’t gained a foothold in the US. When a few innovators started offering wine in the Tetra-Pak a few years ago, the Wine Harlot was thrilled, but the thrill was short-lived. The wines offered in the oh-so-cute 250ml and 500ml packaging was plonk. Testing (and re-testing, Wine Harlots exhibit a fierce work ethic when it comes to sampling wine) the wines from Vendange, French Rabbit, Three Thieves, Alice White and the Target Wine Cubes, left the Wine Harlot wanting.
Enter CalNaturale. CalNaturale offers two wines, a chardonnay and a cabernet sauvignon. The CalNaturale wines are a step-above what we’ve come to experience as box wine. The grapes are organic, certified by both C.C.O.F and Q.A.I. The chardonnay is delicious, fresh with apple and pear flavors and a creamy vanilla mouthfeel. The cabernet sauvignon is a clear ruby with blackberry and cherry with a hint of oak. Both blends have a touch of viognier blended in for aromatics. The suggested retail is $7 USD for the 500ml and $13 USD for the liter.
The perfect pairing is picnics. Or on hiking trips. Camping. Or at the beach. My favorite is to smuggle them into the movies. A summer blockbuster formulatic movie is much better with wine. Trust us.
The music match is “Jane’s Getting Serious” from Jon Astley from the album Everyone Loves the Pilot (Except the Crew). Jane Winebox is getting serious about CalNaturale. How about you? Baby want a juice box?

I will be the first to admit that I know absolutely nothing about wine. However, I do know packaging and this is fabulous work. I picked up something like this last time we went camping and it was perfect.
That’s why you have the Wine Harlot here ready to give you unsolicited wine advice.
Hey, you get what you pay for!
I really was surprised how tasty these were — I had a lot poor experiences in the past, but I drink a lot of iffy wine — so you don’t have to!
All the best,
Nannette Eaton
Love the fact that you have a “fierce work ethic when it comes to sampling wine”. It is tough isn’t it.
Can’t wait to seek this CalNaturale out and try it.
When it comes to booze, we are hardworkers — no bottle left unsampled!
All the best,
Nannette
