“Life is a cabaret” – Master of Ceremonies from Cabaret
“Life is a cabernet.” – The Wine Harlot

Caymus Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 paired with an Animal style Double Double from In And Out Burgers Caymus Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Whether you believe life is a cabaret or a cabernet – drink it up! And drinking Caymus Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 is the life. Caymus is the pinnacle of winemaking, a wine so delicious it’s a challenge to describe how wonderful the experience is. As Sally Bowles would say, “Divine decadence darling!” This is a cellar-worthy bottle, so if you drink it now, run it through an aerator or decant it to allow it to breathe. This bottle was run through aerator into a decanter about an hour before it was drunk, and it was perfect. The color is a deep dense purple with alluring aromas of blackberries that continue on the palate with dark cherries with an earthy component and notes of vanilla and leather. Drinking Caymus is like drinking contentment.

The perfect pairing is an Animal-Style Double-Double from In-And-Out Burgers with a side of fries. The high/low pairing is sublime, a great match of two American classics. The music match is “Cabaret” by Liza Minnelli from the original soundtrack of Cabaret. (And if you haven’t seen Cabaret, you must. Sally Bowles is clearly a Wine Harlot at heart and has some classic lines. And the music isn’t bad either.) If life is a cabernet, let it be Caymus.

The details: 14.4% alcohol. Cork closure. Appellation: Napa Valley. Grape: cabernet sauvignon. Suggested retail: $68 USD available directly from Wagner Family of Wine or from fine wine purveyors. This was a media sample provided for the second annual Cabernet Day.
