Torkscrew (I always want to say “bless you” after I say it, ‘cause it sounds like a sneeze to me) is designed as an all-in-one corkscrew and bottle opener. Truth be told, Wine Harlots are partial to the cheap Ikea Groggy and most industry professionals use Pulltex’s Pulltap wine key as the standard go-to opener. The Torkscrew’s corkscrew and foil-opener are serviceable, but a bit awkward to use for someone accustomed to a standard two-step waiter’s corkscrew.
Where it shined for me was opening sparkling wine bottles. I wasn’t able to open a stubborn Champagne bottle with my bare hands, and there were no burly housemates around to help — Torkscrew to the rescue! It easily popped the cork – I recommend loosening the bottle’s wire cage but keeping the cage around the cork for additional traction when opening the bottle. Torkscrew will also open screw-caps and crown-caps. This is a great gift for anyone who has hand issues. The base of the Torkscrew is magnetized, so it can be easily located if you affix it to the fridge. If you prefer to keep your tools tucked away in a drawer, pick one of the bright colors so it will be easy to find in the overflowing gadget drawer. The suggested retail price is $20 USD, but on Amazon you can find it for about $10-14. Get a Torkscrew. Your hands will bless you.
