“I dream of wayward gulls and all landless lovers, rare moments of winter sun, peace, privacy, for everyone.” — William Claire

A sunny winter day on the beach. Rocky shore, the sun warming your face, the cold breeze buffeting your body and reminding you that even though the sun is shining, it’s not close to summer yet. That’s what the Witness Tree Pinot Gris Stand Sure Vineyard Willamette Valley 2010 evokes in my glass, besides nuanced citrus, apple and pear with racy acidity and a comforting mouth feel, is the promise of summer forthcoming. The hope of summer in a bottle? For $15 bucks? I’m sure you’ve paid a whole lot more for weaker metaphors.

What food pairing would rock this pinot gris? I regretfully don’t have the recipe to share (and the treasure trove of the internet yielded nothing) but the Steamed Baja Mussels with Smoked Tomato Butter and Grilled Baguette at Solace & the Moonlight Lounge would be epic with the Witness Tree Pinot Gris. Epic! For more food pairing suggestions and information about pinot gris, check the Oregon Pinot Gris website.

Good call on the mussels. We paired Californian Pinot Gris with a grilled halibut with cilantro butter this past holiday. It was a nice combination, too! Thanks for ideas.

Thanks for the plug, Nanette. We had fun (and we were drooling) when we built this list of yummy Food Recommendations.

Hi Jo!

Thanks so much!
When I saw the website with all the useful tools for consumers, I knew I had to mention it to my readers. Food and wine pairings are fraught with so much anxiety, that one more place for to get meal ideas is welcome.

All the best,

Nannette Eaton
