“What America needs now is a drink.” — President Franklin D. Roosevelt

toasting to the 21st amendment repeal day Repeal DayToday marks the 80th anniversary of the ratification of the 21st Amendment to the United States Constitution which repealed Prohibition which began thirteen years earlier by the passage of the 18th Amendment. The 18th Amendment didn’t actually outlaw the consumption of alcohol, but by criminalizing the manufacture, sale and distribution of intoxicating liquors, it enforced bleak sobriety on a nation struggling during the Great Depression. Prohibition, besides decimating agriculture and industry and slowing economic recovery, it strengthened and enriched organized crime.

Repeal Day celebrates the Constitutional Right to drink. And you know how much the Wine Harlots like to drink. We have even created a Repeal Day Mix-Tape to honor our favorite holiday. Normally we like to celebrate Repeal Day with a gimlet, but this year we are suggesting a cocktail with Canadian whisky, rum or tequila to commemorate the spirits that America was introduced to during Prohibition. But no matter your choice of libation, today exercise your Constitutional rights by purchasing intoxicating liquors. It’s the American thing to do
