As we’ve mentioned, we our first wine-love was zinfandel, and Ravenswood has figured prominently in our love affair. Whether it be the affordable under ten dollars Vintner’s Blend Series or the premium Vineyard Designates, they always return our affection. And without fail the Ravenswood Single Vineyard Teldeschi Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel 2007 delivers the love with lush, rich berry and stone fruit flavors, with the hints of vanilla and spiciness that you know and love. The color is dense, dark red, almost black, hypnotic. If only all of the Wine Harlot relationships were so consistently satisfying!
The details: 14.5% alcohol. Cork closure. Appellation: Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma, composed of 76% zinfandel, 22% petite sirah, 2% carignane. The suggested retail is $35 USD and can be ordered directly from the Ravenswood website. A quick websearch reveals actual retail to be about $28-32 depending on your locale. This was a media sample kindly provided by the winery.
Zinfandel is the classic stand-alone wine. If you’re having it instead of a meal, welcome to the Wine Harlot World. If you’re going to be a responsible adult, zin goes best with robust beefy foods. We love it with grilled burgers or Texas chili. Or ribs. Or steak.

I enjoy all of the Ravenswood catalog, the under $10 wines are always reliable.
I also liked the Australian shiraz they did — instead of the bird logo it was kangaroos!

I had this tonight…I’m thinking our bottle was either off or perhaps my wife and I were both off, but even our kids couldn’t detect any fruit when they smelled it.
That’s not good.
The one I had was a total CaliZin — not a fruit bomb, but a classic zin.
